Ushering in the Era of Personal Commerce
Bringing Bluecore’s Vision for the Future of Retail to Life with a Digital Event Series
Project Overview
-
In 2021, the retail industry was undergoing a fundamental shift. As COVID-19 accelerated the move to digital shopping, Bluecore saw an opportunity to help retailers rethink the customer experience and move beyond transactional commerce toward more personalized, meaningful relationships with shoppers.
At the same time, the pandemic disrupted the traditional B2B event experience, making in-person keynotes and customer gatherings impossible. Bluecore needed a new way to bring its perspective to market, engage customers and prospects, and demonstrate the value of personal commerce.
The opportunity was to rethink both the format and the experience: create a compelling digital alternative to the traditional keynote while bringing Bluecore’s vision for the future of retail to life.
-
Working in partnership with Bluecore’s events director, I helped develop the Bluecore Open digital event series, creating a new platform for customer engagement and thought leadership during a time when in-person experiences weren’t possible.
As creative director and designer of Bluecore’s first digital keynote, I translated the concept of personal commerce into a cohesive broadcast experience. The goal was to make a complex, evolving industry narrative accessible and engaging, pairing Bluecore’s point of view with practical insights from retail leaders.
I led the creative direction and design of the broadcast, shaping the visual experience around the central narrative: the future of commerce would be more personal, more relevant, and more connected to individual shoppers. The keynote became one part of a broader digital programming strategy spanning on-demand product roadmaps, virtual social events, thought leadership webinars, and other customer and prospect experiences.
-
Bluecore Open helped transform a period of disruption into an opportunity to build deeper customer and prospect engagement through digital experiences.
Across the event series, Bluecore engaged more than 200 customers and 250 prospects, creating new opportunities to share product insights, build relationships, and demonstrate the business impact of its approach to personal commerce.
The program also delivered measurable commercial influence, with $2M in new-business bookings and $12M in renewal and upsell bookings influenced, against a total program cost of $56K.
Beyond replacing an in-person keynote, the initiative established a more flexible model for delivering brand storytelling, thought leadership, and customer engagement in a digitally connected world.

Bringing Personal Commerce to Life
The major event for the Bluecore Open series was a digital broadcast featuring thought leaders and experts from both Bluecore and Bluecore’s clientele. For the Beyond Transactional Commerce video, I led the creative and video direction, translating Bluecore’s vision for the future of retail into a dynamic, visually engaging story. I developed the visual approach, directed the motion graphics and storytelling, and collaborated with production partners to bring the concept to life.
The Strategic Thinking Behind the Design Concept
With in-person events not an option, Bluecore saw an opportunity to rethink the traditional yearly keynote offered by Bluecore stakeholders. Working with Bluecore’s events director, we set out to create an experience that felt less like a webinar and more like a broadcast: visually engaging, optimistic in tone, and packed with insights retailers could actually put to use. The content strategy balanced big-picture thinking about the future of personal commerce with real customer stories, product demonstrations, and actionable takeaways. We wanted to challenge assumptions about what modern retail could look like while giving audiences the confidence and inspiration to take the next step. The result became the flagship experience for Bluecore Open, a digital event series designed to bring customers and prospects together in a new way.
